Shelves for the Home
Shelving Solutions for the Garage, Home and Yard Shed
It seems that most of us accumulate a lot of junk over the years, often rendering our home interiors and outside storage areas in an unholy mess. The yard shed with no space for garden tools and equipment because of all the kids’ stuff dumped in there. The garage where you have to clear a space for the once dominant car before you can park it overnight. The house where there is so much clutter it becomes a nightmare even to think about tidying up properly. All are familiar scenes to the average family.
Eventually it becomes too much to bear, and we have to accept: this is it, we must sort out this mess! And now! It is time to consider all our storage problems, and to choose shelving solutions that will at least start to minimize the clutter.
It is not just about clutter, though. Garden tool storage, for example, is an essential if you want to care for these expensive tools, and find them easily at the time you actually need them. There are few things more frustrating at home than searching for something you need immediately, and either not be able to find it or have to move another hundred things in order to get to it.
Garden sheds and garages are prone to become clutter zones, and spring and summer are good times to get them sorted once and for all. It is best to assess the real problem items that tend to just get dumped, and work out how best to organize them. Get the family involved, especially the kids if you have children at home still. Tell them what they are allowed to store in the garage or shed, and ensure they have the shelves, racks or cabinets they may need. If they have a big item like a bike to store, then agree with them what is their space. Also, never forget to consider overhead garage storage. It can be very useful for overwinter storing.
If there is simply too much gear that has to be stored away from the house, then identify it, assess the space needs and shelving solutions, and look for a new storage unit, such as small portable shed, to accommodate everything. It is best to clear the garage and shed altogether on a nice sunny day, get rid of the junk you just never use, then put things back in an organized way. Always take into account when you might need items, and store them accordingly. For example, garden tools and equipment will need to be stored for the winter after cleaning and maintaining, but during the summer will need quick access at all times.
Inside the house, disorganization and clutter can be even more irritating, especially in the colder seasons when you are indoors most. Kitchen and living areas are perhaps most prone to storage problems, so finding solutions in those areas are a priority. In fact, if you decide to go the whole way and get a new kitchen to accommodate everything, you can even transfer one or more used kitchen cabinets to the garage or shed to make use of them there.
